Wow, I really enjoyed your post. I can't wait for my husband to read it. It sounds so much like our youth, courtship and high school years ( down to the same years). We too are faded (not dfed) and walk a fine line celebrating kids birthdays, fathers day etc on the down low. We also decided that we did not want this kind of life for our kids and they have adapted quite well, the youngest thanks us almost on a daily basis for getting him out. I wish your wife well in school, she will love it, my husband and I went back in our late 30's (while still in). I will so look forward to hear more from you! NMKA

Greetings
by AggieNostic infirst new topic for me.. i have observed this site for about 4 years.
haven't been to a meeting since oct 2005. definitely feel jws are a high control group that mirrors many of the definitions of a cult.. i was raised as a witness since age 5, left at age 38, now 43. happily married to a wonderful woman for 24 years, except for 1 year of separation when i was failing miserable in a search for my true self - hard to do when you were completely sucked into this religion.
yes, i was a true believer pretty much up into my late 30s.

This always made me sad, even though I am married, I saw so many single friends that had no life in the organization. For one thing she will probably be working, so she won't fit in with the going out in service during the day gossiping little busybodies. If she takes care of herself and works out, the women won't want her around their husbands. Let, say there are a few men that were potential mates for her, that isn't a very big pool to choose from. There is so much more to loose when you get married later in life but she can't take him for a test drive and make sure that they are compatible
Maybe she doesn't want to marry again, she can't date or go on vacation with a guy. She can't even go out in the evening and have a drink and dance (like the JW married couples can ) without getting counseled. In my opinion it is no kind of life. I couldn't do it. NMKA

Written Reviews...what did you really do during them?
by xeracia inremember these silly tests they make you take?
i don't remember how often they were, but thinking back on them, boy does it seem silly!
sitting there for half an hour trying to remember stupid stuff as if you are in school.

For one thing attendance was always very low on written review night. I used to try to answer the questions and think to myself "how could I have sat through all this information and not remember "any" of it"? I guess it was my brain's protective mechanism. Now they call it the oral review, even with the fancy new name, many folks just skip that night.

We were big halftime bolters there toward the end. On week nights it's really tough with kids and homework to be out until 9:45, then get yourself up and out early the next morning. By Sunday you are just wanting a little free time.

Circuit assembly tid bit
by Iwonder17 inanother way of saying this would be...stop thinking and listen to us.
this is something that i am having a really tough time with and have spoken to the elders about several times.
it would seem to make sense that i would be able to get reasonable answers to some questions, and if not they could at least be honest and say "i don't know".

I use this on my "in" friends all the time. Why would God give you great reasoning ability and instincts but then tell you not to use them?

How do JWs justify watching vampire shows and movies?
by truthseeker ini know of a few jws who enjoy watching vampire shows like twilight and some have even said they will go and see the vampire movie new moon.. it seems that some sisters have a fascination with vampires!!.
how do they justify watching what is clearly questionable entertainment while still attending meetings and going out on service?.

One of my friends (still in) actually bought Twilight for her 13y/o daughter and before that they saw all the Harry Potter movies. To me you either do something right or stand back and say do I want to do this anymore? So many of my "still in" friends ignore many of the rules but still feel obligated to attend meetings and go out in service, I don't get it either. NMKA

Yeah, all for pulling off that band aid, and boy does it smart after sitting there full of puss for 40 years. I couldn't pull it off slow either, once you decide, you can't take another minute. Have a great weekend! Keep on working on that husband, there is such great advice on this board . Congratulations on a new life!

Are Jehovah's Witness men good catches?
by garyneal ini've stated this before on this message board but i was kind of curious about this and wanted to get some feedback from the group.
in particular, the ladies who are either current or former jw's.. about a year or so ago, my wife went with me to a church i was attending at the time.
we then later that morning attended a kh meeting.

Yes and no. I could never be married to one of the self righteous idiots reminding me he was the head of the family. I am married to a faded, 3rd generation JW. Even when we were "in" he never once pulled the headship card on me, has always supported my every endeavor ( even going back to school which made him quite unpopular at the time). I know JW men I could never live with and I know non Jw men that are jerks too. Funny one of the things that finally got me thinking was, what if something did happen to my husband, I could not survive in that organization single and there are not many of the men I would want. So for the most part I think you will have a better chance of finding a nice/ good man on the outside. The society ruins good men. NMKA

We have always had guns, but didn't advertise it because I heard of others being counseled about it and didn't want to hear the blah blah blah.
